The goal of this game is to help your child learn the essential skill of sounding out words, which is the key to becoming an independent reader!

How It Works: Two Simple Steps

The path to reading any word is the same: first, you learn the individual sounds, then you blend them together.

1. Explore the Sounds [ › ]

Use the single arrows to move through the word one sound at a time. This is perfect for practicing the individual phonetic sounds. Encourage your child to say the sound out loud along with the app or with you!

2. Build the Word [ » ]

This is the magic button! It turns individual sounds into a real word.

Tapping the [ » ] will highlight the sounds. Challenge your child to say the highlighted sounds out loud with each tap. Keep tapping—the highlighting will get faster, and your child should try to match the speed.

As they say the sounds faster and faster, they will blend together until your child hears the hidden word. When they get it, have them say the whole word to finish!

And when they're done, say the whole word yourself for reinforcement.

Helpful Hints

Don't worry if your child gets stuck. Help is always just a tap away!
